Join us on Stanford campus for STEMfest on April 20 !

Stanford STEMfest will be a fun-filled afternoon on our campus, of hands-on science and engineering activities for all ages, lab tours, and demonstrations. Activities include virtual reality driving, medical and robotics demonstrations, space viewing and much more!

Saturday, April 20th        1:00pm - 5:00pm 

In the Science & Engineering Quad (SEQ) courtyards on the Stanford campus.

The closest visitor parking is in the Via Ortega Garage and the Roble Field Garage. All parking is free in spaces marked Visitor, A, or C during weekends unless indicated otherwise. Accessible parking is also available in the above garages.

Lab Tours

The following lab tours will be happening during STEMfest for ages 13 and older. 

Please check tour information below for age and clothing restrictions.

It is first come first serve. Upon arrival to the SEQ courtyard, please ask for more information at the Information Booth, or go directly to the starting of the line for the lab tours. Location information below.

Mai Lab: Engineering Stimuli-Responsive (Bio) Polymers Tour 

This tour will explore stimuli-responsive polymers through a hands-on activity and a lab tour. Make your own heat-responsive polymer keychain and learn how we grow stimuli-responsive biopolymers!

Target age: There are two parts, see below.

  • PART ONE: One hands on activity for all ages
  • PART TWO: Anyone who meets the following requirements (below) will be taken to the lab that is located next door to the activity table and see how researchers grow, purify and measure biopolymers
    • 13 years or older
    • Wearing long pants
    • Wearing closed toed shoes

Psychiatric Disorders and Psychedelics Neuroscience Lab Tour

This tour will showcase cutting-edge techniques used in neuroscience to study psychiatric disorders and psychedelics.

Age requirement: For ages 13 and older

Clothing requirement: Long pants and closed toed shoes.

SLAC tour guides will show you around the 2-mile-long linear accelerator and the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS), the world’s first hard X-ray free-electron laser.

Age requirement: 13 and older (children 12 and under are not permitted to go on this tour)

Clothing requirement: Closed toe shoes

Waiver requirement: Prior to boarding the bus for SLAC, visitors are required to review and agree to assume certain risks of participating in the tour, which are specified in a registration waiver.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase at Coupa Café located in the Jerry Yang and Akiko Yamazaki Environment and Energy Building (Y2E2).  The cafe will be open from 1-5 pm.
